St Davids Daily Weather Forecast
As a boat operator we use a range of forecasting sites. If you want a user-friendly forecast Windfinder shows wind strength and direction, wave height (swell) and likely rainfall. The Met Office gives pressure, wind and rainfall charts and the Ma Simes Surf Report gives daily surf updates for Whitesands beach, St Davids and a photo to show you what you're missing!
St Davids Accommodation
The places listed here have been recommended by our passengers and friends. For more details please see our blog.
Camping Trellyn and Ty Parke are both recommended in the 'Cool Camping' guide, 2010-11. They offer beautiful peaceful surroundings with all the facilities you need (and a few more besides). Ty Parke has a lovely nature walk and Trellyn, voted 'the coolest campsite in Wales' by Cool Camping, offers bushcraft courses. Our passengers have enjoyed the freedom of 'real' camping (with camp fires) and more exotically the yurts and tipis for those like to adventure in comfort. Both sites offer traditional camping and luxury yurts and tipis, an experience in themselves! Excellent value for money and run by really great people. Spring Meadow Farm offers a welcoming and quiet campsite close to St Davids with the bonus of fresh vegetables and salad from their farm shop and the possibility of picking your own strawberries. Dogs are welcome.
B and Bs Passengers have spoken very warmly of Amber Cottage, the food (local and organic where possible) and the lovely views from the garden terrace. Great value for money and in easy walking distance of St Davids restaurants and the Cathedral and just 1 mile from the sea, with excellent TripAdvisor reviews. The Coach House is in the centre of St Davids, offering en suite rooms with TV and apparently delicious breakfasts! Erinfa is 15 minutes' drive from St Davids. Our foodie friends have been impressed by the breakfasts and the sitting room with log burner - perfect for those days when Pembrokeshire isn't as warm as you'd hoped (but still as beautiful). The Old School Hostel in Trefin used to be a Youth Hostel. It retains its friendly character but has been refurbished and is now being run as a B and B and self-catering for singles and groups. It's 5 minutes' from the sea, about 15 minutes' drive from St Davids and great value for money.
Caravan Sites Lleithyr Farm is a peaceful family run caravan site with a shop and even a farm nature walk and play area for children. It's a 10 minute drive from St Davids or the lovely Whitesands beach.
St Davids Activities
Coasteering It sounds mad - don a wetsuit, old trainers and helmet, scramble and swim around our rocky coastline. Leave the hard work (calculating tides etc) to the professionals - TYF, who pioneered coasteering and Preseli Venture - and just go and have a blast.
Riding The best way to see St Davids has to be on horseback. The St Davids Trekking Centre offers a range of rides according to abilities, including beach rides - a great way to make the most of our fabulous scenery. These guys really love their gypsy horses - and so do our passengers!
Surfing Whitesands is a beautiful beach with the bonus of lifeguard cover. Surf ranges from boogie-board-friendly ripples to board-crushing monsters so if you don't know the beach well please talk to someone who does. Whitesands Surf School do board / wetsuit hire and lessons.
Kayaking Both TYF and Preseli Venture offer guided kayaking tours for all ages and abilities. Pembrokeshire's coastline is stunning but its waters should never be underestimated. Go with the experts and sit back and enjoy the scenery (and paddle a bit!).
Jet boating Once you've exhausted yourselves with all of the above you're welcome to join us on a jet boat trip: enjoy the scenery, the wildlife, the jet manoeuvres and let the boat do the work for you on your adventure.
Relaxation If you need to rest from your outdoor adventures or simply want a bit of pampering then St Davids Therapies at St Davids Candles and Crafts shop offers a range of treatments from relaxing aromatherapy to sports massage if you've pushed yourself a bit hard with your outdoor activities!
St Davids Food
The Bench brings Italian flavour to the centre of St Davids. It is popular with our passengers for its great coffee and paninis, amongst other things. Be warned: their home-made ice cream is fantastic! A little further afield The Shed in Porthgain is an award-winning fish restaurant with a great atmosphere. They specialise in fish, much of it caught locally but also offer vegetarian options if asked in advance. If you want great coffee with a view they have tables outside by the harbour or you can enjoy a lovely sea view from the restaurant. Also in Porthgain is the popular local pub, The Sloop, known for its local seafaring memorabilia, its warm welcome and its food.
St Davids Doctors & Vets
Should you need to see a doctor the St Davids Surgery is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6.30pm. It's possible to just turn up and wait to see a doctor during open surgery from 9-10.30 daily (yes, we are that spoilt in St Davids!) or you can make an appointment by calling them on 01437 720303.
Should your animal family members need to see a vet our dogs recommend The Oak Vetinary Group. They have surgeries in Haverfordwest, St Davids and Manorowen (Fishguard). If you call the main Haverfordwest surgery on 01437 760111 they will advise you on times for all the surgeries.
